Bijan

Bijan Pakzad (simply called Bijan) is an eminent menswear and fragrance designer. Born in Tehran in 1944, he immigrated to the U.S. three decades later and a mere three years after his arrival, had established his posh "appointment only" Rodeo Drive boutique, oft referred to as “the most expensive store in the world." Over the duration of his celebrated career, He has dressed the world’s most influential men, including the likes of President Bush, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise, President Vladimir Putin, and fellow designers, Giorgio Armani and Oscar De La Renta, to name but a few. Considered one of the globe’s most dapper men in his own right, Vanity Fair Magazine named Bijan to its "International Best Dressed List” in 1989. True to his eclectic style, he has branched out in unusual artistic directions, most notably in the late 80's by designing a golden colt revolver placed in a mink pouch in a Baccarat crystal case, then embossed with each customer's name. These limited edition guns have sold at Christie's auction for over $50,000 a piece. Of his four children, his daughter, Daniela, works in the watch department of Bijan designer for men, and his son, Nicolas, also works for Bijan designer for men. Always ahead of his time, Bijan stirred controversy in 2000 with an ad featuring a rotund nude model. Bijan's fragrances for both men and women have been wildly successful by any standards and can be considered true works of art. The scents are housed in unique, circular glass flacons with two separate chambers, appearing to defy the laws of gravity. One such bottle is on permanent display at the Smithsonian. In 1988, Bijan for Men, won FiFi’s "Most Successful Men’s Fragrance (Exclusive)" award, and Bijan for Women, won "Best Women’s Fragrance Package." He prevailed again in FiFi’s 1997 rankings, nabbing "Men's Fragrance Star of the Year Specialty/ Department Stores" and "Best National Advertising Campaign – Men’s," with the release of the enormously celebrated Michael Jordan Cologne. The scent is also available in soap, shower gel, deodorant and moisturizing body oil spray. Incredibly, his DNA fragrance presented in a triple helix-shaped bottle, won an Ig Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1995.
